Curiosities

Gatter: The inn is named after the oldest “member” of the late saw manufacture.
The huge saw machine arrived in the 1930s to the manufacture, but it was assembled in the 1870s or 1880s. The saw machine was originally operated with steam, then in the 1950s the modern electric engine took over the job. Unfortunately, we do not know anything about the fate of the steam engine, but the old saw machine stands restored with all its components in the building.

The old oak tree: One of the oldest common oak trees of Őrség stands in our yard.
The tree is estimated more than 400 years old. The protected oak is almost 30 meter tall, its trunk can be hugged by the linked hands of six people, and the tree is in excellent health.

Tóka: Tóka (tiny pond): In the garden you can find a pond that is a unique characteristic of Őrség.
People used such ponds for washing clothes or watering the animals.

Szala stream: The first section of the Zala river (called Szala in Őrség) that feeds Lake Balaton, runs only some meter distant from our garden.
This is where the name of the village comes from, “fő” (meaning head in Hungarian) indicates the spring and origin of the Szala stream.
